Wandering around Bologna’s hills: panoramic addresses over the city

“… ma come è bello fare un giro per i colli bolognesi”: maybe while listening to an Italian radio you heard this refrain of a super famous song by band of Lunapop… Those were really such perfect words because if you’ll get to know  Bologna you will realize soon how wonderful are the hills (the so called “colli”) around the city!

There are many itineraries for discovering the sweet landscape on the hills around Bologna,  more or less distant from the city center, and I am sure I will be able to talk about them lots of times in my future posts… but today I suggest you a relaxing and very easy tour to discover 3 panoramic points on the city, for having an amazing glance or for taking some nice pics :).

SAN MICHELE IN BOSCO

Not far from Porta Castiglione, going up along the road that leads to the Istituto Ortopedico Rizzoli, there is one of the nicest panoramic points over the city, San Michele in Bosco.

This medieval complex is really old and it’s made of a church with a porch that offers a privileged view on the city.

Even if it is sunny or a little bit foggy the view will always be amazing… the city seems to be there to be admired, lived and understood from far away :). I often go there for a quick stop if I pass by, because this place always gives me a great sense of peace. I count the towers (that now are about 10) and I imagine how it could had been when there were even  about 100 of them!

Usually I sit for a while on the balustrade and I let my thoughts be free! Often there are other people absorbed and in a dreamy mood and we smile to each other, understanding we are both feeling the good vibes coming from the city.

VILLA GHIGI PUBLIC PARK

For losing yourself totally in between the nature I suggest you to go to Parco di Villa Ghigi, maybe the most beautiful green public parks that you can find on the first hills outside Porta S.Mamolo.

After a few kilometers you’ll find an idyllic view!

In this absolutely peaceful atmosphere it will be lovely to have a walk along the path that goes into the woods and then coasts the hill. At a certain point you’ll find a bench waiting for you, a very special place where you can rest and maybe read or write something with the city on the horizon… don’t you find this place sooooooo wonderful? I love it!

VIA DI GAIBOLA (FOR ADMIRING SAN LUCA):

Continuing on the road that leads to the Paderno valley from Villa Ghigi, you’ll soon be riding some hairpin turns that will lead you quickly up on the hills in the middle of the nature. After some turns you’ll find yourself in one of the most panoramic points for admiring San Luca, that wonderful will be there in front of you framed by the nature.

I’ve promised myself to come back here often, maybe for photographing this enchanted scenary during some colourful sunset… obviously I won’t miss to post the pictures even here on the blog! I suggest you to go back to the city center riding via dell’Osservanza and admiring the sudden glances on Bologna that you’ll be able to see in front of you as you were at the movies :).
