At Ristorante Marconi you’ll taste flavours that will make you dream…

Leaving Bologna and riding via Porrettana from Casalecchio di Reno you get in a few minutes in the middle of green and sweet hills that will get covered by sunsflowers during summertime. I love this road because in a few kilometers it seems to be in a vacation scenary, even though you are such close to the city.

On this way you’ll get soon to Sasso Marconi, one of the first Appennino bolognese‘s little towns that have such a mountain feeling… Soon after the Marconi’s Museum (a place to visit) you’ll see on your left Ristorante Marconi‘s sign, home of the famous Michelin star chef Aurora Mazzucchelli.

This restaurant is one of the culinary bolognese excellency, a really special place  even for the most demanding palates or for somebody who wants to experience new tastes that will move for sure the deepest senses. I was lucky to taste Aurora’s cuisine who, with her sweet and welcoming smile, made my taste buds dance!

The restaurant just re-opened last summer after renovation and now it has a new super chic, minimal contemporary look. Simple, silent, intimate. Look at this glances of it:

The story behind this restaurant, that serves mainly a fish based cuisine, is very fascinating as it’s a family story that started with Aurora and Massimo’s father (Massimo is the super wine expert and sommelier who works there and who welcomes guests with a big charm). Their father in 1983 bravely decided to open in this area a fish menu restaurant, where usually the main courses at restaurants are truffles and mushrooms as the typical mountains’ cuisine is used to offer. His simple and delicious fish plates got really well knowned and people started to go to Sasso Marconi for a lunch or a dinner that could remind them Riviera Romagnola‘s tastes; there I can imagine in that kitchen a little Aurora looking, smelling, touching, listening … her passion grew quickly, and one day she started to run herself the restaurant.  Her amazing talent was soon awarded in 2008 with a Michelin Star, the best honor you can get (still owned nowadays).

What can I say… my lunch was a continuos path of discovery, amongst tastes and textures I did not even knew before. When you eat some dishes I think some of our taste buds get to dance and some pairings can really move some new senses 😉

The raw shrimp served with herring’s icecream and a peach reduction was something incredible… I swear it gave my shivers going down my back!

So, in the middle of the soft light of the restaurant, coming also from the big windows facing the woods and that make you feel deep into the nature, I had this amazing experience. The wines that were paired with the dishes glorified it all… And should we talk about the homemade bread and breadsticks? All is made with super selectioned flours and mother yeast and I swear… I could really have a lunch made just of them 😉

It’s worth to visit the ground floor with a kind of private room (perfect for a special dinner with friends or a special occasion) and the super wine cellar, that you can see behind a spectacular glass wall.

For everybody’s luck Aurora and Massimo decided also to open, just at the restaurant’s side, their bakery which is called Mollica and sells bread, pizza and other baked goodies. You can have a seat for breakfast or a quick snack and it’s a lovely opportunity to taste their products’ quality. I still haven’t been but I will for sure really soon… ehm… I think I will to breakfast, lunch and dinner all together because I’ll try everything for sure 😛

Ristorante Marconi is really a unique place, perfect for a romantic dinner or for a special time with gourmet friends, an experience for a special gift to someone or to yourself.

And you know what make it all really special? The passion… in Aurora’s eyes and words, with her strength and sweetness together, there’s the secret of believing deeply in what you do, that gives really the best of all the inspirations!

Passion Quote

Going home in the middle of the sweet bolognese hills, with San Luca‘s hills on the background of my view, some jazz music came from the radio; it was the perfect soundtrack, maybe given by destiny, for carrying on the sweet sensations that this place and food left me…
